The Antivirus Software That I Use Every Day
Hello Everyone!
Today I will be talking about the antivirus software that I use on a daily basis.
When I am not testing another brand of antivirus software such as Norton Antivirus, I use Avast Antivirus.
I have been using this software, mostly on a daily basis for about the last free years.
I started out with the free version and was so happy with it that I bought the Avast Professional Version with a 3 year license.
What I like about this software is that it does it’s job quietly and is not in your face all the time. It does pop up about once a day and tells you that the software’s virus data base has been updated, but I don’t mind that.
The software sets up a resident scanner that you can see running in the taskbar and it’s easy to find out what it’s doing.
Here is a list of what my software is doing on my desktop right now.
I can also adjust the level of protection on that task bar link as well.
Here is what it is doing on my computer right now!
Script blocking:
- Scan scripts in IE and Shell
- Scan scripts in Netscape
- Scan scripts in Mozilla
Internet Mail:
- Scan outbound mail [SMTP]
- Scan inbound mail [POP3]
- Scan inbound mail [IMAP]
- Scan inbound news [NNTP]
- Scan outbound news [NNTP]
- Heuristic sensitivity: high
Instant Messengers:
- MSN Messenger
- ICQ
- Trillian Messenger
Network Shield:
- Show messages
Outlook:
- Scan inbound and outbound mail
- Scan all messages on open
- Heuristic sensitivity: high
P2P Shield:
- Kazaa & KazaaLite
- Direct Connect
- Direct Connect++
Filesystem:
- Scan all files on write
- Scan selected files on open
As you can see above the program is not just a antivirus program for files, it also protects you from viruses in your emails and in scripts that are running in your browsers and protects my files on the fly.
Below is the text of the help page that is brought up when you launch the program from the start button.
avast! 4.7
Simple user interface
The usage of the simple user interface is indeed very easy.
The following five points will get you started.
1.
Select the areas to scan
Choose what you want to scan. You have three different areas to choose from – hard disks, removable media (floppies, CD’s etc.) or user-defined folders.
More information
2.
Select how to scan, and run the scan
Choose the scan mode (quick, normal or thorough) and whether you want to scan the contents of packed files (such as zipped files). Then execute the test by pressing the “Play” button.
More information
3.
Accept the results of the scan
After the test finishes, you will be presented with some statistics of the test and shown the test report. If any virus is found, you have the possibility to choose the desired action.
More information
4.
Use the resident protection
Just as in real life, the best protection against viruses is prevention. Protect yourself now! The resident protection can be controlled by pressing the icon with the avast! symbol.
More information
5.
Customize the program to your needs!
By using the context menu, you can customize the program. The latest version of avast! proves that using an antivirus program can even be fun!
Then you go on to a control panel that looks like a media player.
This is the only think I am not really a big fan of in the program.
It takes a little exploration to find out how to use it properly.
That’s probably because the program does most of the work in the background automatically I don’t go in there and do a manual scan very often.
Summary
The reasons I like this software so much.
1. Not in my face all the time.
2. Does more that just antivirus protection
3. Frequent Updates
4. Low Maintainance I do not have to do manual scans often or view reports that it found virius, because it prevents files from becoming infected – so it’s doing it’s job.
If you want to get a copy of this software you can try it here.
I hope this helps you!
