Problems With Computer – Here I Talk About One Of My Recent Problems
Hello Everyone!
Today I am going to talk about a recent problem that I had and how I solved it (well almost I’ll tell you more later.)
Well here’s my story.
A few days ago I was happily typing away on a new blog post for one of my blogs.
Everything was going ok, but when switching screens I noticed things were slowing down a bit, but nothing of great concern.
Then I started to get warnings popping up from Windows XP that I was low on hard drive space.
Then I knew something was definitely wrong!
I have a Hard Drive that has just over 700BG of Storage.
However, normally I only use about only about 282GB of the space.
So I knew something was wrong!
I did all the normal things that can be done to free space, uninstall unneeded programs (I am a program hog.), unused programs (see last note), and games that I do not play any more.
Ok, that freed up about 35GB of storage.
So I kept on doing what I was doing. Working on my Blog.
About 10 minutes later I started getting the Window XP Disk Errors again???
So I hit my Window Control Key + E button and brought up an Explorer screen.
When I checked the space on the drive it showed my C: Drive had no free space.
Ok that was it!
I shut everything down and did an immediate backup which only took a few minutes as I was fairly current and I was using GoodSync.
(You can get your own free copy by clicking on the banner on the right side of this page.)
After that was done I ran Window Disk Cleanup to see if that would do anything.
The utility would not do anything because there was no space and after deleting other files and programs, again after a very short period of time my hard drive was filling up again.
So the next thing I suspected was that a virus was doing this.
I had been testing a new very popular antivirus product , and I find it to be a very good product.
I previously was using a antivirus product provided by my internet provider, but when I tested this new product it was finding allot of things the online product could not.
So I used this product to see what the problem was, but it did not find anything wrong.
So I was at a loss to what was going on.
Usually when I find that my computer had a virus and the utility will not remove it -it’s time to reformat the drive and start over again.
That is not a big deal for me to do because I do have a good backup and I have all the software I use on hand.
But it does take allot of time to reinstall everything. And time costs money!
So I had the Window XP setup disk and license out ready to roll. But my inner voice was telling me to wait and think it over some more.
When I hear that voice I listen to it, it has served me well in the past.
So I went and made a tea and watched a program that made me laugh and take my mind off the problem.
Coming back to the computer refreshed, I realized I had not tried everything!
I had just a few days before installed a new suite of utility programs called “Advanced SystemCare”.
I was using the free download version and was finding it very useful and fast.
So I opened up the program and went into the utilities area and started to run their Disk Cleanup program – Smart Defrag™.
Good news! It would run where the Window XP version would not.
So I let it finish and looked at the report. To say the least I was very surprised!
The cause of my problem was the Antivirus Program.
It had made a huge temporary file in the Application Data area of my hard drive, using over 349GB of storage.
WOW!
So I told the disk cleanup program to not send the files to the Recycle Bin which would solve nothing, but to permanently delete the files.
After that was done, back to normal. It pays to not be hasty!
I was concerned about the behavior of the Antivirus program and wanted to find out what the problem is with the program, or what was making this happen.
I have a support ticket in with the software program and will report about it hear when I get the answer.
I was so grateful for the time and aggravation savings I immediately logged in to their site and purchased a one year license for the upgrade to Advanced SystemCare PRO v3!
It was only $19.95 USD.
At the same time I also purchased a license for the software “IOrbit Security 360 PRO” as well for an additional $10.00.
I had also downloaded their free version of that program and found it to be top notch as well.
This was a savings of $24.95 instead of the full retail price of $54.90 for both.
I am not suggesting that you rush out and buy these two programs with out trying them out first, they may not work the way you may want them to.
But I do suggest that you do download the free versions and test them and see if they work better than what you have right now.
Then you can make your choice. Please let me know what you think!
