Did You Download Your Security Update From Microsoft Last Week?

I did and I hope you did!

Here Is Why It Is Important That You Do!

Hello everyone.

Last week I saw the announcement that Microsoft had available a new security update for Internet Explorer 7. This update was related to the attack on Google that has been in the news.

I do no allow automatic updates of my Windows XP operating system.

Why Not?

I prefer to look at what is suggested and download it if I think it is useful, or if I don’t want the update I disable the notification.

An example of this is, I disabled the notification about an update to Internet Explorer 8.

I found this version of Internet Explorer too restrictive and constantly nags you when you don’t have the settings the way it want the browser to run with.

I won’t go into details but some of the setting I change from default have to do with one of my work at home contracts.

To be fair to Internet Explorer 8, I have not tested it lately so things may have changed, but I doubt it.

Internet Explorer 7 works fine the way I want it to, so I feel no urge to upgrade and test the waters again.

Ok back to the upgrade.

The reason I ask about the security upgrade is that it is important to get this update!

Why? Most people perhaps are not aware of this, but without any version of Internet Explorer on your computer, your Window XP operating system will not work.

Internet Explorer is the engine that creates the screens and menus on your computer.

When Microsoft was being sued for antitrust violations they agreed to allow people to have the ability to remove the icons and references to Internet Explorer in Window XP thru the setup options in the Window XP options area.

The court was trying to get Microsoft to allow a complete uninstall but they backed off on that because Microsoft informed them that they allowed that, the operating system would not work anymore.

So even if you do not use Internet Explorer you should get the security updates because they are necessary to keep your Window XP computer secure.

If you have disabled the automatic updates of Windows XP like I have, you can just go to your control panel and click on the Automatic Updates icon in there and click on the “Install updates from the Windows Update Web site.”

When you get there you can select the custom scan and after that is done you can select the security update from there.

I hope you will find this helpful.
