Problems With Computer – Today Something A Little Different!
Today Something A Little Different!
Today I am going to talk about a particular problem that has cropped up with my blogs and how it was solved.
I also want to share with you the two people who I get most of my education regarding blogging.
First The Problem.
Just a few days ago Wordpress brought out their latest version 2.0.
There are new features in this release that makes it worth while upgrading like support for imbedded video.
I did not automatically upgrade all my blogs, I tested the upgrade on one of my newer blogs http://www.totallyfreestuffblog.com.
I backed up my data base and files and did the upgrade.
I disabled all my plug-ins and did the automatic upgrade.
Everything looked good and went fine until I looked at my Plug-ins.
All the plug-ins were ok, except for Simple Tags.
When I opened my plugins a warning was flashing that my Simple Tag plug-in was not working.
Simple Tags is a very important SEO (or Search Engine Optimization) tool.
This plug-in is one of the mandatory plug-ins that my mentor Mike Paetzold
recommends.
I contacted him, and he was already aware of this problem, which did not surprise me at all.
He is usually always on top of these new developments.
He told me he would not be upgrading any of his blogs until an update to the plug-in was released, or a fix was found.
So I started to look for a solution myself.
The computer gods were smiling upon me that day when I check in with me other trusted source of blogging knowledge Alex Sysoef and Dmitriy Agadzhanov of Expert Wordpress.
In fact it was a good thing that I used my Totally Free Stuff Blog for my testing because the answer to my problem was right on the blog dashboard.
The install of this blog was done with Alex and Dmitriy’s Expert Wordpress Install Download.
Updates from Alex and Dmitriy are posted right on the Wordpress Dashboard under “Expert Wordpress News”.
Here was the title of the update; WordPress 2.9 Upgrade And Simple Tags Solution.
Talk about easy to find. I contacted Mike, and of course he found it before I did. So if Mike trusts it, I trust it.
I tried it and it worked like a charm.
Boy! They were sure fast to find a fix for that problem, this was only three days after the release of the new version.
So today I am going to show you how to do the fix of the Simple Tags plug-in on one of my blogs.
Here’s the Video:
Here is the code you need to replace the existing code that does not work in the Simple Tags plug-in:
if ( strpos($wp_version, ‘2.7′) !== false || strpos($wp_version, ‘2.8′) !==
false || strpos($wp_version, ‘2.9′) !== false ) {
I hope this helps you.
Where To Get Help With Your Blog
Here are links to both Mike’s WordPress Made Easy and Alex and Dmitriy’s Expert Wordpress.
I am a customer of both of these programs and highly recommend them both.
I find both of them helpful because they take different approaches to blogging and I have learned alot from them both.
I have to admit that I still have lots to learn, so I am sticking with both of them. These are the go to guys for blogging.
All The Best!
