Avast Professional Antivirus And Why I Like It

Avast Professional Antivirus  And Why I Like It
And Continue To Use It

Post #4 In My Step By Step Windows Setup Series

How I Do, What I Do & Why I Do Certain  Installation Steps
After A Fresh Installation Of Windows On One Of My Computers
Or When I Buy Or Build A New One

The main reason I use Avast Professional Antivirus after several years of subscribing to their service is that the software simply does it’s job and stays out of my face.

It does have a pop up that comes up a couple of times a day that tells me that my virus database has been updated.

And once in a while a similar popup arrives telling me that my program has been updated as well.

I don’t mind these popups because they remind me that the program is working.

I do run a manual scan once in a while, but this is usually unnecessary as the program works without out any action on my part.

This brings up the only problem I have with the program.

Every time I go to run a manual scan, I have to poke around on the software’s interface to get it started.

The control panel is very nice looking but just clicking the start button does not start the scan, first I have to select the files I want to be scanned before I click the start button.

In reality this is not the program’s fault, it’s just that I rarely need to do a scan and I am forgetful.

I could blame it on advancing age, but I get easily distracted, this happened even when I was young distressing my teachers and my mother.

I figure I don’t have to remember every thing, and I know I can’t.

That’s why I keep my manuals, and I do read them.

The software is more than a antivirus program, it is also a Script Blocker.

It can also scan your inbound and outbound mail for viruses in all the commonly used methods to send and receive mail.

It’s a Network Shield, and can scan Outlook’s incoming and out going mail, and also scans your emails when you open them.

It protects your computer while you are using the major instant messaging programs; ICQ, MSM Messenger, and Trillion Messenger.

Avast protects and scans P2P traffic and all your HTTP traffic as well.

Avast does all this with very little in your face time and does not slow my computer down.

However when it does detect something harmful it sets off an alarm and pops up right away and tells me what is wrong and lets me decide what to do and makes helpful suggestions.

I usually follow it’s recommendations.

I have seen it stop a virus in it’s tracks and allow me to delete the file in question, and has also allowed me to terminate access to a dangerous web site that had a virus or Trojan of some kind before it was opened and caused any problems.

So this is why I am reluctant to try or buy anything else.

Avast On-access scanner gives fast and efficient protection without any significant work on my part and I know it can do the same for you.
